Starting out
Start slowly! The key to getting into cycling is to:

  • Choose a route which is flat and smooth, a shared off road path is a great way to start.
  • Ride slowly for the first 10 minutes, gradually increasing your speed as you progress in your ride.
  • As a beginner, cycle for 20 minutes and aim to cover about 5km. Slowly increase your distance and speed over time.
  • Choose a correct fitting bike that suits your riding needs
  • Wear comfortable clothing e.g. Shorts, trainers and t-shirt, not jeans and hiking boots!
  • Drink plenty of water and plan your ride
