Noosa Coastal Transit Centre
The Noosa Coastal Transit Centre is primarily a functional facility to allow buses to operate effectively. It is recognised that achieving an effective transport function is aided through the recognition of the relationship between transport, land use and sustainability. As such it is considered that the transit centre should seek to achieve:
- An efficient functional facility for buses;
- Integration of transport modes in order to make the best of synergy between complimentary transport modes in support of the ideals of the Noosa Integrated Local Transport Plan;
- Allow for seamless movement between transport and surrounding land use;
- A catalyst for local economic regeneration;
- High environmental ideals of sustainability in terms of power and water;
- Minimal adverse impact upon the local environment;
- Set a framework for wider streetscape and urban design improvement;
- Possess features and functions that facilitate transport integration without overt competition to surrounding land use.
During the planning phase of this project, significant consultation was undertaken with stakeholders. Where possible, issues raised during consultation have been addressed and incorporated within the final concept proposal. The Development of the Noosa Transit Centre final report was presented and approved by Council in December 2007. Minor modifications have been made to the final concept drawing and the Transit Centre will be undergoing detailed design during 2008 with a view to construction during the financial year 2009/10.
